2nd Annual Charlie Johnston Ride

June 13, 2015

This event is to help support the Fillmore Fire Department and M.A.D.D. in memory of our brother Charlie.  I want to explain a little bit about Charlie before I tell you what happened to him. He had a mental handicap but was able to live a full life with friends and working and was considered part of the fire department. He never knew a stranger. He would talk to anyone anywhere and was very well known in our small town of Greencastle.  Honestly in our county..Putnam..everyone knew Charlie. To get around Charlie would ride his moped. The Fillmore Fire Department had just wrapped up their annual chicken bar-b-que this particular weekend. That Monday Charlie, as he always did, went up to help the guys at the fire department clean up the fire department and put up chairs and just clean the yard up from the trash left over from that weekend of a busy bar-b-que. It was approximately 9:15 -9:30 p.m. and Charlie was heading home. On his way home a lady in a car was on her way to work and said she saw a headlight coming but went ahead and turned in front of Charlie. Charlie was killed on impact. To keep Charlies memory alive we would like to honor him with a ride each year. The ride is approximately 102 miles starting and finishing at the fire department.

The ride will be June 13th.  Registration is from 9:30- 11:00 a.m. kickstand up at 11:00 a.m.
